Thing Compass

Terms of Use

Effective October 13, 2026 · Last updated October 13, 2026

The short version: Thing Compass helps you remember where your things are. Your content is yours and stays on your device and in your iCloud. Please keep a backup of anything important, use the app lawfully, and know that purchases and refunds go through Apple.

Please read these terms carefully. By downloading or using Thing Compass, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.

1. About these terms

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and EunJin Yoo, a sole proprietor operating as Thing Compass (“Thing Compass,” “we,” “us”). They apply to the Thing Compass iPhone app (the “App”) and the website at thingcompass.com (together, the “Service”).

These Terms are the end user license agreement for the App. They are between you and us only, not with Apple Inc. (“Apple”). Where these Terms don’t address something, Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies. Your use of the App must also follow the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information and is part of these Terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country, to use the Service. If you’re under the age of majority where you live, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

3. License to use the App

We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on any Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. The App may also be used by other accounts associated with you through Family Sharing, where available.

You may not, except where the law expressly allows: copy, modify or create derivative works of the App; rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute or sublicense it; reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it, or try to extract its source code; remove any proprietary notices; or use it to build a competing product.

The App is licensed, not sold. We and our licensors keep all rights, title and interest in the App, the website, and the Thing Compass name, logo and design, including all intellectual property rights. These Terms don’t give you any right to use our trademarks.

4. Your content

Everything you add to the App, including photos, names, notes, tags and places (“your content”), belongs to you. We don’t claim ownership of it. Because your content is stored on your device and in your private iCloud, we don’t have access to it, and we don’t need a license to it.

You are responsible for your content. You confirm that you have the rights to the photos and information you add, and that your content doesn’t break the law or infringe anyone else’s rights.

5. Keep a backup

Thing Compass is a tool to help you remember where things are. It is not a guaranteed or official record. Devices can be lost or damaged, iCloud can have outages or sync problems, and software can have bugs. Please use the export feature in the App’s Settings to back up anything that matters to you.

Don’t rely on the App as your only record of valuable or important items, for example for insurance claims, inventories for legal purposes, or the location of medicines, documents or safety equipment.

6. iCloud and Apple services

Syncing uses your Apple Account and iCloud, which are provided by Apple under its own terms. Your iCloud storage, availability and security are Apple’s responsibility, not ours. If iCloud is turned off, full, or unavailable, your content may not sync or back up.

7. NFC stickers

NFC stickers are a convenience feature. How well they work depends on your iPhone model, the sticker, and where it’s placed. The App writes a link to the sticker that contains only a random code. Please keep in mind that any phone nearby can read the link on a sticker. Without your device, it won’t reveal what’s in your App.

If we sell stickers or other physical products in the future, separate terms of sale will apply to them.

8. Purchases and refunds

Any purchase of the App, or within the App, is processed by Apple and is subject to the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. Prices are shown in the App Store and may change. We don’t receive or store your payment information.

Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Nothing in these Terms limits any right to withdraw from a purchase or get a refund that you have under the laws of your country.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to: break any law or regulation; infringe anyone’s rights; interfere with or disrupt the Service or its security; access it through automated means except as we allow; or attempt to gain unauthorized access to any system or data.

10. Feedback

If you send us ideas, suggestions or feedback, you allow us to use them freely, without any obligation to you. We’ll never publish your name or message without your permission.

11. Maintenance and support

We are solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support for the App, as described in these Terms or as required by law. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the App. For help, email contact@thingcompass.com.

12. Changes, updates and availability

We may update the App to fix problems, improve it, or add, change or remove features. Some updates may be required to keep using the App. We may suspend or stop offering the Service, in whole or in part, at any time. If we decide to discontinue the App, we’ll try to give reasonable notice. Because your content is stored on your device and in your iCloud, you’ll still be able to export it.

13. Warranty disclaimer

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We don’t warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that your content won’t be lost.

If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the App, if any, to you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple will have no other warranty obligation with respect to the App. Any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses due to any failure to conform to a warranty are our sole responsibility, to the extent they can’t be disclaimed under these Terms.

14. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, content, profits, revenue, goodwill or use, arising out of or related to the Service, even if we’ve been advised of the possibility of such damages.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for the App in the 12 months before the claim, or USD 50.

Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain warranties to be excluded or liability to be limited, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that can’t be excluded or limited by law, such as liability for intentional misconduct, gross negligence, or death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your rights under mandatory consumer protection laws.

15. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your content or your breach of these Terms or the law. This doesn’t apply where we are at fault, or where the law doesn’t allow it for consumers.

16. Product claims

We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to the App or your possession or use of it, including: (a) product liability claims; (b) any claim that the App fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement; and (c) claims arising under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.

17. Intellectual property claims

If a third party claims that the App, or your possession and use of it, infringes that third party’s intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement and discharge of that claim.

18. Legal compliance

You confirm that: (a) you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a “terrorist supporting” country; and (b) you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You agree to comply with all applicable export and sanctions laws.

19. Third-party terms

You must comply with any applicable third-party terms when using the App, including your agreements with Apple and your wireless carrier.

20. Third-party beneficiary

You and we acknowledge and agree that Apple and Apple’s subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and that, once you accept these Terms, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

21. Termination

You can stop using the Service at any time by deleting the App. We may suspend or end your license if you materially breach these Terms. When the license ends, you must stop using the App and delete it. Sections that by their nature should survive termination, including sections 3 (ownership), 4, 10, and 13 to 24, will survive.

22. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.

If you have a concern, please contact us first. Most issues can be resolved quickly and informally. If a dispute can’t be resolved within 60 days, either party may bring it before the Seoul Central District Court, which will have non-exclusive jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer, this choice of law and court doesn’t deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, or of your right to bring a claim in the courts of that country.

23. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date above and post the updated Terms on this page. For changes that materially affect your rights, we’ll give notice at least 30 days in advance on this website or in the App. If you keep using the Service after the changes take effect, you agree to the updated Terms. If you don’t agree, you can stop using the Service and delete the App.
