Thing Compass

Privacy Policy

Effective October 13, 2026 · Last updated October 13, 2026

The short version: what you keep in Thing Compass stays with you. Your photos, notes and places live on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud. We don’t run servers that store them, we can’t see them, and we don’t use ads, trackers or analytics SDKs. The only personal information we handle is what you send us when you email us, and basic technical logs from our website.

1. Who we are

Thing Compass (“Thing Compass,” “we,” “us”) is an iPhone app and website (thingcompass.com) operated by EunJin Yoo, a sole proprietor based in the Republic of Korea. For the purposes of data protection laws, EunJin Yoo is the controller (or “personal information processor”) responsible for the personal information described in this policy.

This policy explains what information is involved when you use the Thing Compass app, visit our website, or contact us.

2. Information in the app

When you use Thing Compass, you may add photos of your belongings, names, notes, tags, and the places you keep them, such as rooms, furniture, drawers and boxes (“your content”). Your content is stored:

We do not collect, receive, store or have access to your content. It is not transmitted to us or to any server we operate.

Device permissions. The app asks for permission before using these features, and you can change your choice at any time in your iPhone’s Settings:

On-device processing. Removing the background from a photo is done entirely on your device using Apple’s built-in technology. Photos are not sent anywhere for this.

NFC stickers. The app writes a web link to a sticker, such as https://thingcompass.com/s/…. The link contains only a randomly generated code that points to a place in your app. It doesn’t contain your name, your items or other personal information. Anyone who scans the sticker with a phone can read this link, but without your device they can’t see what’s in your app.

You can use an authorized agent or legal representative, and we may ask for proof that they’re authorized. We’ll respond within the time required by law, generally within 30 days (45 days for U.S. requests, and 10 days for requests under Korean law), and we’ll tell you if we need more time. We won’t discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). We’d appreciate the chance to address your concern first, so please contact us.

Providing personal information to us is voluntary. If you don’t email us, we simply can’t reply to you. It doesn’t affect your use of the app.

13. Notice for people in the Republic of Korea

This section sets out additional information required by the Personal Information Protection Act.

14. Children

Thing Compass is not directed to children under 13 (or under the age of digital consent where you live, such as 14 in Korea or up to 16 in parts of Europe), and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we’ll delete it.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date above and post the updated policy on this page.
